Challenges & Solutions

Orchard Cannabis is expanding their product line with a new brand currently called “Windfall”. Time is tight, with branding and related assets, including the website, needing to be ready to submit to the LCRB before the 2026 holiday break.

With the holiday break a touch over two weeks away, this obviously presents a challenge. Brand and identity development can be a complicated and subjective process to begin with, but this will need to be done lightning quick. Turnaround time for feedback will be short. To achieve this, I’m proposing the following for this initial round of brand development:

  • Stick to a logotype: the name “Windfall” in a good font with no icon. Luckily the initial example provided is exactly that :) The opportunity for some flourish may naturally present itself during the process, but best to presume it won’t.
  • A simple colour scheme of two colours plus white:
    • A primary colour for the logo when presented on a white/light background, and for large colour fields.
    • The logo in white for when presenting on a dark background.
    • An accent colour.
Brand development estimate & timeline

The website requirements for the LCRB submission are a bit unclear, but the following is what is possible given the two submission dates that have been mentioned.

If it’s essential that there is a website online for submission by December 23rd, then this is likely our best bet. It will be powered by Wordpress as with the other sites, but getting Woocommerce up and running in a compliant manner would be a moonshot. And very expensive.

  • Single landing page with branding, slogan/messaging, and any customer awareness notices (ex product release dates).
  • Link(s) to the Orchard direct sales site if cross-selling is an option.

If we have until January 1st for the website side of the submissions, it should be possible to get a simplified Woocommerce site up and running. We would have to sacrifice a bit of the standard process of wire-framing & design revisions/feedback, but given that we aren’t reinventing the wheel, it’s doable. Functionally it would be a pared down version of the Orchard direct sales site, and would include:

  • Landing page
  • One page catalogue/product listing (no separate product pages, can be introduced later)
  • All out-of-the-box functionality (ex cart/checkout/account/notifications)
  • Registration/application process
  • Simple page template for any other content (contact/about/etc)
